What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a popular treatment option used for straightening teeth. The system utilizes clear, medical
grade, BPA free plastic trays rather than the metal brackets and wires of traditional braces. Invisalign
aligners are custom-made to the exact specifications required to gradually move each patient’s teeth into
proper alignment. Patients receive a series of aligners, each worn for a couple of weeks. The Invisalign
system can correct a range of issues, including misaligned, crooked, and overcrowded teeth.
How Does it Work?
Patients usually receive a new set of aligners every 1-2 weeks. Each aligner set is designed to move teeth
a fraction of a millimeter. How long the entire process takes will depend upon the amount of
movement required to achieve the desired outcome. Patients generally visit the office about once every 6-8
weeks so Dr. Change can assess progress. Multiple sets of aligners are given to patients at each visit.
What Are The Advantage of Invisalign Over Traditional Metal Braces?
Patients prefer Invisalign for a number of reasons. Among the biggest is that they are virtually invisible
and therefore more aesthetically appealing. In addition, because Invisalign trays are removable, teeth can
still be thoroughly brushed and flossed. With traditional metal braces, food often gets trapped in the
brackets or spots in the teeth where they cannot be removed. Flossing is also not possible with traditional
metal braces. Another plus, there are no food restrictions With traditional metal braces, patients are not
permitted to eat many hard and sticky, favorite foods, such as gum, hard candy, and popcorn. Most patients
do not experience any pain, as is often the case with metal braces. In addition, Invisalign trays do not
have any rough edges, they don’t cause cuts or mouth sores. Invisalign also allows you to view your virtual
treatment simulation before you start, so you can see how your teeth will look when your treatment is
complete.
